Teeth-Friendly Summer Snacks

Once school is over for the summer, it's time for fun under the sun, followed by hungry kids, teens, and adults seeking tasty snacks! Here are some tooth-friendly summer snack ideas that your family is sure to enjoy.

Fresh Watermelon & Apples

Fruits are excellent for your oral and overall health. Watermelon and apples, being rich in water and fiber, help boost gum blood flow and wash away harmful bacteria from the teeth.

“Ants on a Log” (Celery, Raisins & Peanut Butter)

This classic summer snack is full of tooth-friendly ingredients that will keep everyone smiling throughout the summer. "Ants on a log" consists of celery topped with peanut butter and raisins. Celery acts as a natural teeth cleaner, while raisins combat cavity-causing bacteria and gum disease. Peanut butter adds flavor and protein to make this snack delicious and satisfying.

Cheese & Meat

A cheese and meat platter is a favorite after a day of play. Cheese raises mouth pH levels to reduce tooth decay risk, provides calcium and protein for strong enamel, and many meats offer B vitamins that help prevent mouth sores and inflammation. Meat is also sugar-free, preventing oral bacteria from feeding on sugars and producing enamel-damaging acids.

Salads & Smoothies

Salads are a nutritious option for oral and overall health (watch the dressing). If your family isn't keen on salads, try adding fruits like blueberries, strawberries, oranges, mangoes, kiwis, or pineapples for appeal. Alternatively, blend frozen spinach into fruit smoothies or add fresh leafy greens to pizza.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains calcium, phosphorus, and protein that strengthen teeth, along with probiotics that promote good oral bacteria. Create yogurt cups or parfaits with low-sugar yogurt, fresh fruit, granola, or nuts for added nutrition and crunch!
