We are open on Friday and Saturday of this week - (week of 11/11)
Thinking about having a tooth extracted is not pleasant for anyone, but thanks to advancements in dentistry, extractions are now much more comfortable than they used to be! What can you anticipate during this procedure? Will it be painful?
Instances Requiring Tooth Extractions
There are several situations in which a tooth must be extracted. The most common is wisdom tooth removal. When wisdom teeth are impacted or causing alignment problems, removing them can enhance your oral health. Teeth can also be damaged, decayed, or infected. While we always aim to preserve teeth whenever possible, there are circumstances where extraction is the most suitable treatment.
Is Tooth Extraction Painful?
Prior to extracting a tooth, we numb your gums with a local anesthetic. You may feel pressure during the procedure, but you won't experience any pain. If you feel anxious about the extraction, we provide oral conscious sedation to help you stay relaxed while remaining awake.
Post-Extraction Care
It is normal to experience discomfort after a tooth extraction. It is recommended to rest for at least the remainder of the day, and ideally for a few days. Pain can be alleviated with prescription or over-the-counter medication. If the pain persists or if you encounter issues such as continuous bleeding, please contact us immediately. Stick to soft foods for a few days after the extraction, such as applesauce, smoothies, yogurt, lukewarm soups, and scrambled eggs. Avoid using a straw when drinking. We will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions during your consultation to help you prevent dry socket and other complications.
